Tempus is fugin’ away
Yikes, TWO MONTHS since I last wrote—sorry, folks! Been busy and all that, yada yada…
I can’t say the renovation work is slowing down exactly, but it is getting more finicky, as finishing details seem to take as long as the initial 80% of the task. So progress is more subtle, but I did reach a major milestone, in that the flooring is finished at last! The kitchen was most stubborn — the grubby old Brady Bunch vinyl was cemented down and beastly hard to scrape up, but now looks very sleek. For the first time I can imagine walking around the place barefoot:
Meanwhile, late winter on the riverbank is full of distractions, such as …
…fleeting fascinators like ice on the rain chain. An hour later, this ice was gone.
…revelations to be found in slices of plain old 2x4 lumber—very thin slices—resulting from me being extra-cautious in the “measure twice, cut once” approach to construction. Only after I cut them did I see the light coming through the sappy wood.
…and of course, the allure of FIRE. The last wet dump of snow made perfect conditions for burning off one of the brush piles on the place. After a day of scraping, it’s very nice to relax with a cold beer and poke sticks into the flames.
