Quagmire

Last Thursday and Friday, it rained. A huge, slow, wet system up from the Gulf (thanks a lot, Gulf!) that dumped 3 full inches into my rain gauge in town, and — needless to say — inundated my swimming pool.

Gaaaa.

I dug more ditch, all the way to the edge of the clearing and the water began to drain, a brown rivulet like chocolate milk.

Good ol’ gravity took the water down about 90% in 4 hours.

But, there’s no way can the house be set up in this quagmire, nor can the foundation guy put in footings and foundation. What’s your favorite technique for exercising superhuman patience?

Helpful tip for the next time you’re trudging around ankle-deep in greasy clay-mud: when you find you can’t pick up your foot to take another step, don’t panic. Rock your foot back so your toe comes up first, so you don’t walk right out of the boots. Don’t be startled by the loud sucking sound, it’s just the slime-laden beasts of the underworld trying to pull you down…..
