It’s been a minute (or a month)
Sorry about the silence! I’ve been busy, mainly painting:
The good news is, the weather’s been warm and dry; the bad news is warm + dry means there are still a LOT of wasps still staggering around, crashing into each other, and acting all territorial when I approach. Thus I have not gotten much done on the the back (south, very sunny) side of the house, nor on the east side—they’ve taken up lodging inside the heat pump. Buggers.
But we’ve had a week of very cool nights now, so maybe they’ll just give up the ghost and let me finish. Anyone have an aluminum extension ladder that goes higher than my 14-footer?
Unfinished as the south side is, I couldn’t resist getting a shot of the newly-installed rain chain and its doppelganger shadow on the wall.
But hey, all work and no play makes me grumpy so we’ve also been taking time off here and there to actually enjoy the surroundings. There’s a really sweet picnic area at the north end of Wild River State Park, near the confluence of the Sunrise river and the St. Croix, which I love to show off to anybody who comes up. Below: looking down- and upstream, where the little river joins the big one, also some interesting specimens spotted about a week ago (actually, Sandra and her sister Sally, plus an absolutely lurid tree fungus that looks like it’s trying to become an agate).
OH! How did I forget — we just passed the anniversary of the house’s 2am ride down the highway to nestle safely among my oak trees. September 28th, 2023 it was… Here’s a glimpse; the complete story’s over here.
Still leaves one a bit breathless… More to come, stay tuned!
